Recognition & Remedies: Domestic Violence in the LGBTQ Community

Presented by the Family & Matrimonial Law Section of the LGBT Bar Association of Greater New York (LeGaL), the Domestic Violence and LGBT Committees of the New York Women’s Bar Association, and the Joyful Heart Foundation


This program will explore cultural competency and best practices for various types of domestic violence cases, including forms of abuse specific to the LGBTQ community. Topics will include methods of access to court and remedies, the mechanics of obtaining an Order of Protection, and how to approach cases where arguments for LGBTQ rights might compromise protection of the abusee.
